It’s almost Halloween, and with Halloween comes trick or treaters, costumes, scary movies, and so much more. No matter what your pup’s personality is, there are many ways to celebrate this holiday with the entire family!
Halloween costumes for pets can be a great way to celebrate with your pet while also celebrating the holiday. However, not every pet will enjoy wearing a costume or even being dressed up at all. It is important to remember that you should never force a frightened animal into a Halloween costume and do not leave them alone in their costumes if they appear agitated in the first few moments you try it on them.
To get the best possible fit, be sure to check the sizing guides because different brands of costumes have different sizing standards. You might also consider doing a couples costume with your pet for added cuteness!
Some of our favorite Halloween costume ideas include this Rocket Ship Dog & Cat Costume, an Avocado Dog & Cat Costume, and the Front Walking Granny Dog & Cat Costume. Your furry companion will be sure to get a ton of compliments by the end of the night dressed in these.
Halloween Pet Safety Tips
Whether you’re scaring up some candy from the neighbors or throwing a Halloween party at home, it’s critical to properly prepare pets (especially new pets who may be hesitant to see individuals dressed in bizarre costumes ringing the doorbell!).
Yes, Halloween is a lot of fun, but with all of the activities going on—from costume parties to trick-or-treaters knocking on your door every five minutes to all of the candy sitting around—it becomes prime time for mishaps. (Not to scare you, but it’s true.) We have some tips to keep your pet feeling safe and secure during this time.
Are you planning a spooky get-together? With so many visitors coming and leaving, your cat may slip out the door without anybody noticing. If you have a nervous dog, try leaving a note on your door asking guests to walk in. Leave candy out on a table for trick-or-treaters to reduce contact with your front door. The last thing you want is to agitate your dog and cause them to flee for safety.
All those delicious treats in gleaming packaging? Even the most well-behaved pets will be tempted. Many popular Halloween treats, sadly, are not only unhealthy for your pet but also harmful. Keep toxic food items high up on shelves and covered under a lid.
What’s the most excellent part about Halloween after that? The treats, of course! We wouldn’t want our pets to miss out on the scary deliciousness of Halloween, so we’ve prepared some tasty pet-friendly treat recipes.
Your pets should avoid your own trick-or-treat bag, but you may undoubtedly provide some pet-friendly goodies. Make magical tiny bits and tasty potions for your pets using pantry staples and easy-to-find seasonal ingredients. This recipe is frighteningly simple:
Homemade Peanut Butter Cups for Dogs
- ½ cup carob chips
- ⅓ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Step 1: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt carob chips in the microwave for 30-second increments, stirring well after each time. Once melted, stir in peanut butter and coconut oil until smooth. Pour into silicone candy molds or mini muffin tins (about ¼ cup per cavity) and freeze for 20 to 25 minutes.
Step 2: In a microwave-safe dish, heat the peanut butter until almost liquid. Heat 20-seconds at a time. Then spoon the mixture into the center of each of the coated cups. Pop back into the freezer for a few minutes to harden again.
Step 3: Reheat the carob mix if needed. Spoon the mix over the peanut butter, making sure it is all sealed in. Pop back in the freezer for a few minutes to harden, and then they are done!
