“Spooky Season” is here, and that means it’s time to start thinking about costumes! If you’re like most people, you probably have a few costumes in mind for yourself and your family. But what about your pet? Just because they can’t trick or treat themselves doesn’t mean they don’t want to get in on the Halloween fun! Luckily, there are plenty of ideas for an easy DIY pet costume for Halloween that you can put together with just a few supplies from your local craft store.
At Doggy Detail, we love and care for furry friends in Cook County, and we know the value of a happy pet. 1. Hot Dog Pet Costume
A hot dog costume is a classic that never goes out of style! For this costume, you’ll need a hot dog bun costume (which you can find online or at a pet store), a pair of brown socks, and some black felt. Cut the felt into two small triangles and safety pin them onto the back of the hot dog bun costume. Put the socks over your pet’s front paws and voila! You’ve got an adorable hot dog ready for Halloween! Bonus points if you own a wiener dog breed!
2. Pumpkin Pet Costume
What would Halloween be without pumpkins? This costume is easy to make and only requires a few supplies. You’ll need an orange shirt or sweater (make sure it’s loose enough that your pet can move comfortably), some green felt, and a black Sharpie. Cut two small triangles out of the green felt and use the Sharpie to draw some eyes, a nose, and a mouth on one side of each triangle. Safety pins the triangles onto the shirt or sweater and you’re all set!
3. Bat Pet Costume
This fun and easy bat costume are perfect for pets who love to dress up! All you need is a black shirt or sweater (again, make sure it’s loose enough that your pet can move comfortably), some black felt, and a white Sharpie. Cut two wings out of the black felt (you can freehand this or find a template online) and use the Sharpie to draw some dots on them for added depth. Next, cut two small triangles out of the black felt and use the Sharpie to draw some of the eyes on one side of each triangle. Safety pins all of the pieces onto the shirt or sweater and your pet is ready to fly around on Halloween night!
4. Bee Pet Costume.
This one is sure to be a hit with all the kids in the neighborhood! To make it, you’ll need a yellow hoodie sweatshirt and black pants for your pet (again, adjust accordingly if you’re using this costume for a cat). Attach some cardboard wings to the back of the sweatshirt using Velcro strips. So cute!
5. Ghost Pet Costume
This one is super simple if you need a last-minute easy costume idea to get all of the “awws”! All you need is an old white bed sheet and a pair of scissors. Drape the sheet over your pet and cut out holes for the eyes, ears, and snout. Make sure they will not be able to trip over any excess fabric. Then you’re good to go!
These are just a few easy DIY pet Halloween costumes that you can put together with items you probably already have around your house. So get creative and have some fun with it! Happy crafting!
