Important To Know About Our Doggy Daycare Services
Please help us, help you. Below are some things to remember so we can provide you with the best service possible:
- Please make sure your yard is easily accessible.
- Lawns must be cut on a regular basis without large amounts of leaves or debris. Poop Scoopers can only pick up what they see. This also allows us to have a fun-filled dog playtime session.
- Gates need to be unblocked by snow and free to move. If we are unable to get in your yard and you are not home, we will return the following week and you will be charged for a service visit.
- Aggressive dogs must be left indoors on scheduled service days. Poop Scoopers will ring your door bell if the dogs are out. If you are not home, we will be unable to service your lawn and you will be charged for the service visit.
- Please let us know at least two days in advance if you need to temporarily suspend service.
- We will work through most weather, but snow, rain, and severe cold can cause us to postpone our work that day. We will do our best to make up that work later during the week. However, if prolonged weather prevents us from working the rest of the week, you will not be charged for those missed days.
- The Doggy Detail office is closed on the following major holidays; Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Typically, service will return the following day.
Doggy-Detail Service Policy for Bad Weather
As you know, our weather can be harsh depending on the time of year. There can be multiple days of heavy snowfall, dangerously cold temperatures, extreme heat, or severe thunder storms/lightning. It’s usually at this time questions about our service and billing are raised. Therefore, we feel it is very important to remind everyone of our bad weather service policy.
In the event there is bad weather on your service day, we will do our best to make up that work later during the week. However, if prolonged weather prevents us from working the rest of the week, we will return the next scheduled service day.
Also, please keep in mind that your dog is still going to the bathroom outside, regardless of the weather. Therefore, dog waste is accumulating. Because of this, we will continue billing you as if we serviced your home. To help better explain this policy of continued billing we have listed some common questions below:
- Q. “Why am I being charged for a service when you are not there?”
- A. Your dog is still going to the bathroom outside regardless of how bad the weather is. Therefore, our field collector is going to have twice the amount of waste to collect. In other words, if we skip your house due to bad weather, there will be twice the amount of waste to collect the following the following week.
- Q. “Our dog waste is covered by snow, so why should we still pay?”
- A. For three very good reasons:1.) When it is not snowing outside, we are able to locate and collect the dog waste. We do this by following dog tracks and looking through the thin top layers of the snow which have melted revealing the location of the waste.2.) Your dog typically goes in the same areas, so we can collect the waste before they track it in your house.3.) Maintaining your lawn throughout winter helps when the snow does start to melt. Not only for appearance, but will save you money on spring clean-up cost. Customers who pay for residual service DO NOT incur a “Spring Clean” charge come spring.
Dog Waste Removal Facts and Myths
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pet waste can spread from diseased animals to humans, which is called Zoonoses. When dog waste becomes infected and lands on your lawn, the eggs of certain roundworms and other parasites can linger in your soil for years+ Any human, or animal that comes into contact with your infected soil runs the risk of coming into contact with those eggs; especially your dog.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has deemed pet waste a "non-point source of pollution." This basically means, pet waste is in the same category as oil, and toxic chemicals. Also, the decay of your pet's waste actually creates nutrients for weeds and algae that grow in our waterways. This can results in limiting the amount of light which can penetrate the water's surface. As a result, oxygen levels in the water decrease and fish will die.
Dog Waste Removal is Essential
If you do not remove dog poop from your lawn, you run the risk of carrying the following hazardous bacteria and parasites on your lawn:
- Cryptosporidium
- Giardia
- Salmonella
- Hookworms
- Ringworms
- Tapeworms
If you become infected by one of these, symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, and diarrhea. Children are definitely more susceptible as they often play in the dirt and put things in their mouths, or eyes.
3 Myths about Dog Poop Waste Removal
- Dog Waste is Good Lawn Fertilizer
No. Contrary to belief, dog poop or waste is NOT a good fertilizer. As a matter of fact dog waste is very high in nitrogen and salts which can burn your lawn. Dog waste also attracts flies, which transmit disease. Dog poop or waste itself can also be a vector for transmitting certain disease, between dogs and people (Salmonella, Campylobacter, Roundworms, and Hookworms.) Plus this makes dog playtime messy for our dog walkers and your furry friend - My Lawn Mower Will Chop-up the Dog Poop
Sometimes it can, but not always. More times than not, the dog poop is not high enough for the blades to cut it and you wind up stepping on it, or running it over with the wheels on your lawn mower. This just pushes the poop further in to the ground. - Rain Will Wash the Dog Waste Away
As long as the dog waste it not solid, than yes. Otherwise, rain will not wash the dog waste away. In solid form, the dog waste can with stand numerous weeks of down pours.
Tired of Seeing Yellow Patches On Your Lawn?
The cause of this could be because of your dog's bathroom habits. Check out these remedies below to help cure it:
-
- Train your dog to use a non-grass area in the landscape, such as mulch, or gravel. If you are okay with some spotting on the lawn, than select a specific location and train your dog to go there.
-
- Increase water consumption with your dog. It will dilute the urine, reducing the potential for a discolored lawn.
-
- Feed your dog with a high-quality diet. This may help since the protein is more digestible and there are fewer waste products.
- Water your lawn more frequently. This will also help dilute the urine.
Train Your Dog So You Can Have A Good Lawn
-
- Select an area where you want your dog to relieve themselves. Do your best to prevent them from relieving in any other areas for a while.
-
- Keep the same bathroom schedule daily. Take them out on a leash yourself, and walk them to the selected area.
-
- Be patient, and wait until your dog urinates or defecates. If your dog doesn't relieve them self within three to five minutes, take them back inside. Try again in 15 minutes. Continue to process until your dog relives them self in that selected area.
-
- When your dog relieves them self in the place you've chosen, praise them calmly. When they finish, reward them right away with multiple treats.
-
- Timing is very important. So that your dog understands why they are getting rewarded, your dog must receive their treats right after they finish relieving them self.
- Be patient as it may take a few days, or even a few weeks, but eventually they will get it right.
